Food Energetics
Diet is crucial in TCM to keep the harmonious balance of the body. To keep this harmony we need to understand our individual constitution. Different core constitutions mean different dietary requirements to keep the body strong. One food may be good for one person but not for another, and modern diets commonly fail to acknowledge the individualism of each own body. Whilst Western nutrition emphasises nutrients and calories, Eastern emphasises works on an energetic level, how the food reflects the patterns of nature, and in turn the energetic effect within our bodies, such as heating and cooling, cleansing, or toning.
TCM teaches us to include foods that work in alignment with our own constitution, as well as the seasons, and avoid foods that do not.
Cupping Therapy
Cupping is a treatment dating back to ancient Egyptian, Chinese, and Middle Eastern Cultures. It is noted in one of the oldest textbooks in the world ‘Ebers Papyrus’ as a therapy used by the ancient Egyptians.

The practitioner uses purpose-built cups that can be glass, silicone, or plastic which are placed on the skin in a local area. Glass cups are used by putting heat into the glass before it is placed, as the air cools it creates suction and raises your skin. Other cups will have an alternative mechanism to create suction such as a pump.

The suction expands and breaks tiny blood vessels called capillaries, releasing stagnant blood and toxins. The body then replenishes the area with healthier, more nutrient-rich blood stimulating healing at a cellular level.

This method enables toxins to be more readily removed by bringing them to the surface, the improved blood flow eases muscular tension and inflammation as well as boosts natural immune function.

This therapy is often described as similar to a deep tissue massage, and like deep tissue massage can be slightly uncomfortable as the stagnancy is removed, however just as a masseuse can adapt a pressure, the cups also can be amended to fit the comfort levels of the patient.

This is a common therapy for anyone experiencing musculoskeletal pain: muscular, sprains, strains, tension, neck pain, and back pain, however, there are reports of it reaching much further.

Although no adverse effects are associated with cupping, small bruise-like markings may be present on the skin for a day or several after the treatment. This therapy is also not suited for any person on blood thinning medication, sunburn, or skin ulcers. Also, pregnant women should not receive cupping on the abdomen or lower back.
Moxibustion
Moxibustion entails the burning of ‘Mugwort’, a common herb that is used extensively in holistic medicine. Mugwort is seen as a sacred herb and has been used for centuries around the world and in a lot of ingenious cultures for its amazing healing properties. As atea it is helpful for matters of women's health in aiding us through pain in our cycle as well as digestion. It is a herb that ‘gets things moving’, so is also typically said to help us transition through life with less turbulence.
Moxibustion is a compression of dried Mugwort leaves into cones or sticks which is then heated and applied during an Acupuncture treatment directly or indirectly. When administering directly it is with the use of moxa cones, which are placed onto the needle or skin: indirectly is with the use of a moxa stick, this is used much in the same way, hovering over the needle/needles or running the ‘meridian’ it is intended for. The sticks are more common in practice as they have little risk as they are not in contact with the skin, as well as being less pungent and smokey than the cones.

The heat penetrates into the ‘meridians’, these are the pathways of the Qi and life force running through our bodies. It is proposed that the heat promotes blood and Qi circulation which aids in the healing process of a variety of conditions. It is commonly used in women's health to aid in menstrual cramps, as well as pain in joints such as arthritic pain, and digestive issues such as constipation, diarrhea, colitis, and IBS to name a few.
Moxibustion is a beautiful therapeutic addition to your Acupuncture treatment, the heat is commonly reported to aid in the deep relaxation effects of Acupuncture. The skin may become slightly red due to the heat but shouldn't last long.
Reiki
Reiki is an ancient manual therapy of energy healing; it is the use of Reiki from the practitioner's palms to the biofield of the patient. Reiki practitioners, although widely assessable, do require training from training professionals and do commit to a way of life in tune with their abilities to honor and respect the Reiki they have obtained.

There are many variations of Reiki worldwide, I am trained in the traditional ‘Usui’ Reiki. Reiki works on the premise that we all have an unseen life force throughout our bodies, disruptions to this life force through experiences or lifestyle can throw us out of balance, eventually manifesting in physical, emotional, or psychological conditions.

Reiki treatments help in rebalancing and harmonizing our internal energies to support our health and well-being. Reiki is an extremely relaxing and therapeutic experience, however, because of the core nature of moving energy Reiki may give rise to emotions of joy, happiness and/or sadness, the latter is not seen as a bad thing, just stuck emotions rising to the surface to be released.

Everybody is different when it comes to how they experience a Reiki treatment. However, the most common sensation is the feeling of heat/cold in the area being treated. It has also been reported to experience pulsations or cascading waves throughout the body during a treatment. If you are particularly sensitive, you may experience dream-like imagery, which can be interpreted into subconscious meaning.

Reiki is used for a wide range of symptoms; I personally believe it works best for rebalancing us on a mental-emotional level. Reiki works on a deep level and can help disperse old emotions left over from past traumas. Removing this stagnancy can then have monumental effects on the physical level.

You may feel the benefits of Reiki after the first treatment, especially for sleep-related issues and stress, however, Reiki works best as a continued treatment, especially when the traumas are thick and heavy and have been stagnant for a long time. Think about it like unblocking a dam, it may take a few trips to remove all the bulk which stops the flow.
I recommend weekly treatments although you may find that as you progress the benefits of the treatment last longer and you can decrease the frequency.

I will also offer advice and guidance on practices in your daily life to maximize your healing journey. This is not compulsory, just a helping hand to help you live within your best self.
